Nissan Previews New Hyper Urban EV – Concept Debuts at Japan Mobility Show 2023

By Steve Laser

The Nissan Hyper Urban EV is the first of several new electric vehicle concepts that the automaker plans to introduce at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo.

Making its digital debut today at the new design presentation hall at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Kanagawa, the Hyper Urban EV features futuristic styling inside and out.

Hyper Urban EV is designed to appeal to those typically residing in urban and suburban environments. This bold electric vehicle could fit the lifestyles and sophisticated tastes of (young) professionals, especially those who value environmental sustainability.

Nissan says the Hyper Urban EV represents the future of its technological capabilities and electric offerings. For example, the lime yellow exterior is said to change its chromatic expression depending on the angle of ambient lighting in its surroundings.

Scissor doors make a design statement on a concept vehicle, while also making it easier for visitors in a show environment to gaze upon the dramatically styled interior.

Designed with urban living in mind, the cabin offers a mobile extension of a loft. Front seats can collapse and fold into the back seats, for a sofa-like relaxing space, while the instrument panel can be customized to fit the mood of users.

The Hyper Urban could offer features such as V2H (vehicle-to-home) and V2G (vehicle to grid) power, an Intelligent Charging Management System, hardware and software updates, along with the ability to refresh instrument panel graphic user interfaces.
