Nissan Hyper Tourer EV – Futuristic Minivan Concept at Japan Mobility Show 2023

By Steve Laser

Nissan offers a wide array of popular minivan models in Japan, including the Serena e-POWER, Elgrand, and Caravan, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The new Nissan Hyper Tourer EV presents a preview of an all-electric van of the future.

Hyper Tourer is one of five electric vehicle concepts that Nissan is introducing at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo this month. While some of the concepts will be displayed digitally, Nissan is revealing a physical version of the Hyper Tourer at the show.

The distinctive exterior design, with sharp character lines and smooth panels, is inspired by traditional Japanese beauty. Premium elements include kumiko-pattern wheels, and a beltline that wraps around the vehicle housing signature lighting.

Nissan says that the Hyper Tourer combines advanced tech, including autonomous driving, with the essence of Japanese hospitality, called omotenashi. The concept rides on an EV platform with compact electric components, including e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive, and high-energy density all-solid-state batteries.

The interior features the comforts of a luxurious living room with passenger van convenience. Traditional Japanese kumiko and koushi patterns are applied to the overhead lighting design. A floor-mounted LED panel adds to the relaxing atmosphere and can display images of a riverbed and the sky.

Swiveling front seats contribute to the ambience. With the potential for autonomous driving, living-room-style conversations between front and rear passengers could occur while on the go. Meanwhile, an innovative AI system offers the ability to monitor passengers and select music and lighting to match their moods.

High-capacity batteries for the Hyper Tourer, along with V2X (vehicle-to-everything) functionality, could deliver V2H (vehicle-to-home) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid) power.
