New Lexus LM 350h and 500h Preview – Luxury Mover Offers Ultimate Omotenashi Comfort

By Steve Laser

The Lexus lineup includes an array of luxury cars, SUVs, and electrified models. It also offers a luxurious MPV, called the LM, in China and other Asian markets. With the introduction of the second-generation LM, Lexus plans to roll out the new “Luxury Mover” to more than 60 countries, including Japan, Europe, and Australia, for the first time.

Redesigned inside and out, the LM gains bolder styling, offers new hybrid powertrains, the choice of 4- and 7-seat configurations, plus an amazing roster of available supreme luxury features and amenities.

Models include the LM 350h hybrid, with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and front electric motor, and the LM 500h hybrid, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Available E-Four all-wheel drive features electric motors at the front and rear for increased power and traction. While Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), with new frequency-sensitive piston valves in the shock absorbers, contributes to a smooth ride.

The LM features a sleek profile with a long wheelbase. The next-generation of Lexus design has been applied to the new luxury MPV, with a unique identity and proportions that Lexus says reflect functional purity and dynamic performance.

The automaker’s signature “Spindle Body” has evolved with the new LM. By applying the exterior color to the grille, the extruded spindle shape is expressed as a seamless part of the body. Three-projector LED headlights, plus upper and lower arrowhead lights, contribute to the bold good looks.

While the LM offers the flexibility of three-row seating, the following interior photos, from the Lexus Showcase event in Japan, highlight the four-seat model. Designed to be used primarily as a chauffeur-driven MPV, it offers the ultimate omotenashi experience.

Like flying first-class, the individual rear seats offer supreme comfort, support, and amenities. The fully reclining seats transform into horizontal beds, and feature power ottoman footrests, for added comfort. Climate Concierge can monitor body temperature and control seat heating and ventilation. While air bladders in the seats can massage the back, shoulders, and thighs.

A fixed partition that separates the front and rear compartments includes a 48-inch widescreen display, with dual-screen modes, that can be used for entertainment or online meetings. Below the screen are dual storage compartments plus a refrigerator. Above the screen is a power glass partition with open, privacy, and full privacy modes, the latter with frosted glass.

Up front, the driver and passenger are treated to a comfortable environment with high-tech features. There’s a 12.3-inch instrument panel, 14-inch central touchscreen, 10-inch Head-Up Display, Panoramic View Monitor, and digital rearview mirror.

Lexus Safety System + features available in the LM include Proactive Driving Assist, Pre-crash safety (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Abnormal Driver Response System, and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). Lexus Teammate offers Advanced Drive with traffic jam support, and Advanced Park with remote function.

Note: Prototype vehicles are shown. Features and specifications are subject to change without notice. The Lexus LM is not available in America.
