New Honda Acty Special Edition – Celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the T360

By Steve & Tamami Laser

Honda has introduced a new variation of its Acty small commercial vehicle that pays homage to the automaker’s first mass-produced four-wheel vehicle, the 1963 T360. The special “spirit color style” model is set to go on sale this week at Honda dealers in Japan.

Based on the Acty’s “Town” trim level, upgrades include two-tone body color treatment in Bay Blue and White, red Honda logos on the sides of the cargo bed, a white-painted front grille, white door mirrors, black door handles, and silver-painted steel wheels and center caps.

A second color treatment is also available to honor Honda Power Products. This dresses up the Acty with a red and black motif that segues with the current lineup of Power Products.

Inside the cabin, the driver and passenger ride in style with specially trimmed fabric seats. As a commercial vehicle, the Acty is designed for rugged use by businesses across Japan. We’ve seen them delivering goods along narrow streets in Kyoto, transporting farm equipment in Shizuoka, and bringing clean-up and maintenance supplies to airport terminals in Narita.

Like other Acty models, the Town is powered by a 660cc SOHC 3-cylinder mid-ship mounted engine teamed with a choice of 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission and 2WD or 4WD.

The mid-ship layout is designed to enhance driving stability when the vehicle is empty or loaded, while the forward-control cab offers easy entry and exit along with excellent outward visibility and a tight turning radius.

For business with special needs, Honda offers a wide array of upgrades for the regular Acty series that includes dump-style cargo beds, and a cube-style refrigerated cargo box, along with dealer-installed accessories from Honda Access.

The original Honda T360 was followed by the TN360 in 1967, TN-V in 1972, and other models. The first Acty truck appeared in 1977, while a separate Acty Van was introduced in 1979. As working trucks, each generation has a long production life, with major remodels of the Acty in 1988, 1999, and 2009.

Note: Features and specifications for Japanese market models are subject to change without notice.
