Acura NEXERA Vision – New Sports Car Concept with Butterfly Doors

By Steve Laser

Acura revealed an all-new concept car called the NEXERA Vision in Monterey, Calif. this week during the annual Motorsports Gathering at The Quail. While the sports car’s bold design suggests it could preview a future NSX, the NEXERA Vision is a design study.

Key design elements are expected to highlight Acura models of the future, whether they be SUVs, sedans, coupes, or perhaps something else. Honda’s luxury brand was launched 40 years ago, and Acura displayed heritage cars along with the new NEXERA Vision.

NEXERA Vision was created by the Acura Design California team in Los Angeles. Acura says the concept introduces new exterior and interior design language for the brand. The dual-hinge “butterfly” doors, that attract considerable attention, are likely reserved for the concept.

Design details expected to appear on future Acura models include distinctive lighting signatures, starting with the next-generation RDX Hybrid. The concept’s silhouette, with a wide stance, long hood, and active aerodynamics, are also likely to influence future Acuras.

While the concept’s powertrain remains a mystery for now (it could be an EV), Acura did mention NEXERA has high-performance carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and 22-inch centerlock wheels with forged carbon inserts. The front fascia, rear diffuser, rocker panels and other elements are also crafted with forged carbon.

The cabin features futuristic sports-car elements along with two-passenger seating. The seats are fixed to the floor to lower the seating position. The yoke-style steering wheel and pedals are said to be adjustable to meet the driver.

The dash includes high-tech displays, while the interior is finished with forged carbon, gloss black, and pink accents. “Sustainable” materials include recycled aluminum, Alacantara® with recycled polyester, and CircuLeather®.
