2026 Toyota C-HR+ Preview – New All-Electric SUV Joins bZ4X and Urban Cruiser EV

By Steve Laser

The Toyota C-HR is a huge success in Europe, where more than one million units have been sold since the model’s debut in 2016. The second-generation C-HR currently offers a variety of models, including self-charging hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) versions.

Now it’s time for the C-HR to go all-electric, with the debut of the C-HR+ (above). This new battery electric SUV rides on the e-TNGA platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X, while featuring a unique body and interior compared to its C-HR siblings.

Toyota says it plans to launch the C-HR+ in late 2025 for select markets in Europe, with wider Euro distribution expected in 2026. It will join an updated bZ4X (above left), and new Urban Cruiser EV (right), giving Toyota a trio of BEVs in the B, C and D SUV market segments.

C-HR+ styling is based on the bz Compact SUV concept (above) that was designed at Toyota’s ED2 studio in France, and made its debut in late 2021 at a Toyota press conference in Tokyo on battery EV strategies. If the C-HR+ becomes available in other markets (perhaps America?), it’s likely to carry a different name, possibly bZ3X.

While the new C-HR+ features a distinctive design compared to other C-HR models, it’s instantly recognizable as a Toyota BEV. Front styling shares a family resemblance to the bZ4X, including a sporty fascia, C-shaped LED lighting, and a “grille” below the bumper.

C-HR+ presents a dynamic coupe-like silhouette with aero detailing that’s similar to the bz Compact SUV concept. The rear view offers a bold appearance, with full-width LED taillights, fastback rear glass, and an integrated spoiler.

Toyota says that the C-HR+ shares its electric powertrain technology with the latest bZ4X. It plans to offer 57.7 kWh and 77 kWh battery capacities, with estimated outputs of 165 hp and 221 hp with FWD, and 338 hp with AWD. Preliminary estimated driving range is up to 373 miles (600 km) for Euro spec FWD models with the larger battery.

The sporty interior of the C-HR+ is said to provide a roomy and comfortable environment for the driver and passengers, along with an estimated 416 liters of cargo space.

Available comfort and convenience features includes two wireless smartphone chargers up front, multiple USB ports, rear air conditioning controls, ambient lighting, and a panoramic roof.

All C-HR+ models are fitted with a 14-inch multimedia display. A navigation system includes an EV routing function that calculates routes with convenient charging station options, based on battery state of charge, and potential driving range. With the MyToyota app, owners will be able to review and manage things like driving range and charging status. The C-HR+ is also expected to include an array of Toyota Safety Sense and driver assistance features.

Note: Features and specifications for future European market models are preliminary and subject to change without notice.
