Toyota’s Aqua – one of the top-selling cars in Japan – receives several changes for the new year including revised front styling plus a new variant called “X-URBAN.” While the U.S. version of Aqua, known as Prius c, also gets a minor refresh for 2015, it’s unknown whether it will offer something similar to X-URBAN.
Changes that set X-URBAN apart include “crossover” styling cues with a different front treatment, ride height increased 20mm, new lower side moldings, mud guards and roof trim. These styling elements offer a wide range of personalization options.
Customers can select color and trim to build customized “Original” and X-URBAN Aquas as shown in the above video. Aqua’s interior also receives a minor refresh along with a selection of synthetic leather and fabric upholstery, and accent trim panels in different colors.
Other changes for Aqua include LED headlights, new taillights, and optional shiny plated side mirror caps, door handles and rear garnish. Nothing has changed under the hood where Aqua’s Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor and nickel-metal hydride battery pack for a JC08 mode mileage rating of 37.0 km/L.
Those seeking an even wilder look can still opt for the Aqua Gs (above and below) that feature sporty high-tech styling treatments like a custom grille and fascia, unique wheels, sports-tuned suspension and full body kit with rear diffuser.
Toyota says Aqua Gs will be on display at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, scheduled for January 9-11, 2015, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba near Tokyo.
The new Aqua and X-URBAN are now on sale at Toyopet, Corolla and Netz dealers across Japan.
