Nissan Caravan is Vantastic – MYROOM Camper, AUTECH, 50th Anniversary Edition

By Steve Laser

Nissan continues to enhance the long-running Caravan series in Japan with a wide variety of models for business and personal use. Last year, Nissan celebrated a major milestone when the Caravan turned 50. For 2024, along with traditional cargo and passenger van favorites, Caravan also features a creative camper and sporty models.

Originally launched in 1973, multiple-generations of the Caravan have offered something for everyone. For example, the Caravan lineup in 2006 (above) included long body, super long body, standard and high roofs, low floor or flatbed, seating for two to 10 passengers, 2WD or 4WD, and more.

Today’s Caravan can be outfitted as a working van, passenger van, leisure vehicle, or serve as a platform for conversions. Nissan currently offers the Caravan in cargo van, passenger wagon, wide van, microbus, MYROOM, Multi-Purpose Bed, Transporter, Pro-Style, and AUTECH models.

Caravan 50th Anniversary Edition

To recognize the significant achievement in the long-running Caravan series production, Nissan introduced the Caravan 50th Anniversary special edition in late 2023 (below).

Based on the Caravan Grand Premium GX grade, this model features the long body van, with a standard roof, low floor, and choice of gas or diesel engines, with 2WD or 4WD.

Styling accents include custom 50th Anniversary emblems, plus special black trim for the grille, outside mirrors, door handles, sliding door rails, and tailgate finisher.

Inside, 50th Anniversary logos are embroidered into the front seat headrests, while the upholstery pattern for all rows continues the celebratory look. Sales of the special edition concluded in 2024.

Caravan MYROOM

The Caravan MYROOM started out as a concept vehicle, making its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022. Nissan decided to put it into limited production, with the MYROOM Launch Edition that went on sale in Japan last year.

For 2024, it has become a standard model in the Caravan lineup, with MYROOM Grand Premium GX and Premium GX trims.

MYROOM cargo area is transformed into a relaxing environment with light woodgrain throughout and flexible seating, dining, and sleeping areas. Nissan describes the ambience as a simple, minimalist, sophisticated look, like that of a designer hotel.

The second-row seat features three modes, including a drive mode, with forward-facing seating, a living room mode with rear-facing sofa-style seating, and a bedroom mode. The 50-50 split seat allows one passenger to use the living room mode for example, while another can use the bedroom mode.

With a detachable, sliding table positioned between the second-row seat and separate third-row bed, passengers can sit facing each other, and enjoy a meal. Note that features like the curtains and attractive wood mini-blinds are options.

Two different styles of beds are available. The 2-in-1 folding bed (above) has separate sections that can be stored on both sides of the cargo area when not in use. While the MYROOM folding bed (not shown), folds down from its storage position on the right side of the cargo area.

AC 100V and 12V outlets are standard on Caravan MYROOM. Dealer-installed options include a portable battery recycled from the Nissan LEAF, LED front grille illumination, LED fog lights, Nissan Original Navigation System, Drive Recorder, and ETC 2.0 unit.

Nissan plans to offer a sibling to the Caravan MYROOM, when the NV200 Vanette MYROOM goes on sale in Japan in winter 2024.

Caravan AUTECH

AUTECH is a premium sporty sub-brand that offers a variety of parts and accessories to customize and personalize Nissan vehicles. Customers can also select completely finished vehicles, including the Caravan AUTECH (below).

Exterior enhancements for the latest model include an exclusive front grille, front protector, signature LEDs, AUTECH emblems, machined alloy wheels, dark chrome outside mirrors and door handles, an available Aero Package, and AUTECH Deep Ocean Blue paint.

AUTECH interior elements include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with blue stitching and dark satin chrome finisher, a matching leather-wrapped shift knob, and an AUTECH instrument panel emblem. A navigation system and drive recorder are dealer-installed options.

Standard custom features also include black leatherette seats with AUTECH embroidery and blue stitching, black door trim, and dark silver air vent decoration. Caravan AUTECH is a five-seat model, with a split-folding and reclining second-row seat.
