New Honda and Acura Prototypes – Future Hybrid Sedan and SUV

By Steve Laser

Honda announced future product plans during a business briefing in Tokyo on May 14. The presentation included the world premiere of two new hybrid models – the Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype (below) and Acura Hybrid SUV Prototype. Both are planned to go on sale within the next two years.

While model names for the prototypes have not yet been revealed, the Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype looks like it could possibly preview the next-generation Accord, or perhaps a new model with a different name.

The Acura Hybrid SUV Prototype (above and below) also gains an all-new, next generation hybrid system and platform. It features sleek styling, with signature Acura design cues, and might preview the next RDX, or perhaps receive a new model name.

Honda said that by combining its next-generation hybrid system with the next-generation platform and newly-developed electric AWD unit, it strives to improve the fuel economy of the next-generation hybrid model by more than 10 percent.

The automaker said it plans to launch 15 next-generation hybrid models globally by 2030, primarily in North America, including new large-size hybrids, in the D-segment or above, starting in 2029 (not shown). It also plans to apply its next-generation ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) to more than 15 models over a five-year period.

For the Japan market, Honda said it plans to introduce a new N-BOX EV scheduled for 2028. And from 2028 onward, beginning with the all-new Vezel, Honda plans to roll out next-generation hybrid models equipped with next-generation ADAS. Honda also plans to add Sport Line and Trail Line versions to some of its models in Japan.

Note: Future product plans, models, features, specifications, and launch timing for Honda and Acura models are subject to change without notice.
