Nissan revealed the next-generation X-Trail and Rogue with Hybrid e-POWER technology during its long-term vision presentation in Japan on April 14.
Shown onstage with the X-Trail/Rogue, and new all-electric Juke, is Guillaume Cartier, Chief Performance Officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO, and Eiichi Akashi, Chief Technology Officer (left to right).
The X-Trail and Rogue are essentially the same vehicle with different names for various markets. Introduced 26 years ago, the siblings have sold about 10 million units globally. The next-generation Rogue is expected to launch in late 2026 for the U.S. and Canada, while X-Trail launch dates will vary by market.
X-Trail and Rogue receive edgy new styling. The prototype shown in Japan features a black front fascia with integrated LED lighting, sporty side character lines, big alloy wheels, and a two-tone paint scheme with silver body color and a black roof.
The Nissan e-POWER system features a small gas engine that generates electricity, sent to an electric motor and lithium-ion battery, to power the vehicle. Like an EV, e-POWER typically includes brake regeneration and an e-Pedal function. Yet there is no need to plug it in (just add gas). Approximately 2 million vehicles have been sold globally with Nissan’s e-POWER technology.
In Japan, Nissan sells a variety of vehicles with e-POWER, including the Note, Note Aura, Kicks, Serena, and current-generation X-Trail. The Japan-market X-Trail features a VC Turbo gas engine, 150kW front motor, and 100kW rear motor, with e-4ORCE AWD. Choices include X-Trail G, X, and S grades, NISMO, and AUTECH.
Note: Features, specifications, and launch timing for future production models are preliminary and subject to change without notice.
