Lexus is energizing the long-running NX compact crossover with redesigned hybrid powertrains, refreshed exterior and interior styling, new technologies, luxury features, and more. Originally introduced in 2014, Lexus says the NX has sold approximately 1.9 million units in more than 90 countries and regions.
All NX models will receive new-generation Lexus hybrid systems, with choices including the NX 300h FWD, 350h FWD and AWD, plus the 450h+ AWD Plug-in Hybrid (F SPORT shown above and below). New models are planned for global market introductions starting later this year.
NX receives refreshed front and rear styling, including a new frameless spindle grille and lighting elements. New dual-line signature lighting features headlights with integrated turn signals and slim upper daytime running lights.
Dynamic styling details continue at the rear, with new double-L signature combination lights, plus an illuminated LEXUS logo. New body colors include Sonic Tellus ash tone, plus Titanium Carbide Gray for the F SPORT.
The 450h+ F SPORT adds piano black finished roof rails, roof spoiler, lower bumper and sills. Twin-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and aero corners on the rear bumper are also included.
The redesigned hybrid system features a 2.5-liter gas engine for 350h and 450h+ with an e-Axle that integrates the transaxle, motor, and Power Control Unit into a more compact package. NX 450h+ PHEV also gets a new lithium-ion battery developed to deliver increased output and capacity. E-Four electronic AWD gains revised rear motor control for improved operation.
Lexus says that support for DC fast charging reduces charging time for the 450h+. Extended EV Driving Range is estimated at 40 miles for North America, 100 km for Europe, and 140 km for Japan (tentative figures for EPA, WLTP, and WLTC modes for vehicles under development).
Enhanced body rigidity and redesigned suspension components, including new shock absorbers with ultra-low-speed valves, contribute to improved handling and ride comfort. The new NX was tested and tuned at locations including the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama, the new vehicle development center for Lexus, as well as the Nürburgring in Germany.
Lexus has redesigned the NX instrument panel with a horizontally aligned 12.3-inch digital display for the driver and a centrally mounted 14-inch navigation and multimedia system. F SPORT features an all-black instrument panel with contrast stitching to enhance the sporty cabin ambience.
F SPORT is available with a new, exclusive interior color called Prominence, while micro-geometric technical finished interior trim contributes to the enhanced interior.
Sensory Concierge is called “a multi-sensory experience tailored to the occupant’s mood”, with coordinated illumination, music, climate control, seat temperature, and fragrance in three modes: Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalize. Fragrances can be selected separately, offering Tenko (woody aromatic), Keifu (smoky green), Seiyo (white floral), Hanya (mysterious musk), and Shinmei (pure citrus).
The new NX is also equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+, featuring an advanced array of driver assist and safety features.
