Toyota is expanding its lineup of all-electric models with the introduction of the all-new C-HR. The new compact crossover will become the fourth all-electric Toyota model, joining the updated bZ, new bZ Woodland, and all-new Highlander EV.
C-HR gas engine models were available in America for the 2018 to 2022 model years. The second-generation C-HR in Europe offers self-charging hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) versions. A new C-HR+ all-electric model went on sale in Europe late last year.
Styling for the new C-HR is based on the bz Compact SUV concept (above) that was designed at Toyota’s ED2 studio in France, and made its debut in late 2021 at a Toyota press conference in Tokyo on battery EV strategies.
The new C-HR rides on the e-TNGA platform and features a dynamic coupe-like silhouette with aero detailing. Front styling includes a sporty fascia, C-shaped lighting, and a “grille” below the bumper. The rear has full-width LED taillights, fastback glass, and an integrated spoiler.
Available in SE and XSE models, C-HR is fitted with dual-motor electronic all-wheel drive, developing 338 total system horsepower. With the standard 74.7 kWh battery, preliminary estimated driving range is 287 miles for the SE and 273 miles for the XSE.
The standard NACS port offers the ability to charge at Level 3 DC charging stations. Toyota estimates fast DC charging from 10- to 80-percent in about 30 minutes under ideal conditions. C-HR also offers Level 1 and 2 AC charging, and features an 11 kW onboard charger and dual-voltage 120V/240V charging cable. Battery Preconditioning is also included.
Inside, the sporty C-HR includes SofTex® trimmed seats, with synthetic suede added to the XSE. Heated front seats and steering wheel, dual wireless phone chargers, and four USB-C ports are standard. Paddle shifters with driver-selectable four levels of regenerative braking are also featured.
All C-HR models receive a digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system. The standard audio system includes six speakers, while a JBL® Premium Audio system is available on XSE with 9 speakers.
Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are included, along with dual Bluetooth connectivity. Drive Connect features a three-year trial with Cloud Navigation, Destination Assist and Intelligent Assistant.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, and more features. Lane Change Assist and a Panoramic View Monitor are standard on XSE.
Note: Features and specifications for U.S. market models are subject to change without notice.
