Nissan is expanding its NISMO models in Japan with the addition of the new LEAF NISMO. Based on the third-generation LEAF, the EV gains sporty enhancements inside and out, along with NISMO tuning for improved handling and response.
The new LEAF NISMO was introduced during the Nissan Formula E Team 2026 Tokyo E-PRIX press conference on July 22. Rounds 14 and 15 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship were scheduled for July 25-26, on a special street-circuit course in Ariake, surrounding the Tokyo Big Sight convention center.
LEAF NISMO joins the current NISMO lineup in Japan that includes the ARIYA NISMO, Fairlady Z NISMO, X-Trail NISMO, and AURA NISMO. Of course, the LEAF and ARIYA are EVs, while X-Trail and AURA are e-POWER hybrids, and Fairlady Z has a twin-turbo V6 engine.
Exterior mods for LEAF NISMO that contribute to enhanced aero performance include special front bumper corner finishers with air guides, a “boat-hull-shaped” rear under spoiler, and extended ducktail rear spoiler. Exterior color selections include NISMO-exclusive Stealth Gray.
Additional sporty NISMO elements feature “Arterial Magma” red accent colors, front lower bumper and lower door finishers, and black mirrors. NISMO-exclusive Enkei brand 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped with 235/45ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.
Modifications designed to improve handling and steering response include NISMO-exclusive springs, stabilizers, front suspension member bushings, and KYB shock absorbers with swing valves.
LEAF’s drive modes gain unique tuning. Sport Mode, now called NISMO Mode, is said to deliver powerful, linear acceleration. Standard and ECO modes are optimized for the NISMO-tuned chassis for a “more integrated driving feel”. Nissan also says this is the first EV NISMO with dedicated tuning for the regenerative braking control paddles.
This special LEAF is offered in three models: NISMO B5, NISMO B7, and NISMO B7 with RECARO sport seats. Electric motor output is unchanged from the standard LEAF with 130kW (177PS) for B5, and 160kW (218PS) for the B7s.
LEAF NISMO is treated to a sporty black interior with red accents. TailorFit™ synthetic leather wraps the steering wheel, while the front seats receive red perforations and NISMO embroidered logos. Additional enhancements include a NISMO-exclusive power meter for the 12.3-inch Drive Assist Display, red NISMO power switch, and instrument panel finishers.
NISMO-tuned RECARO sport seats provide added support for the driver and front passenger on the top LEAF NISMO model. Leather and Alcantara® seating surfaces are included, plus a power reclining feature for added comfort.
LEAF NISMO has a 12.3-inch NissanConnect Infotainment System with Google built-in, front and rear drive recorders, wireless charger, and ETC2.0 unit. A 10-speaker BOSE® Personal Plus Sound System is standard on B5 and B7.
