All-electric vans are very popular in Europe, and so are van conversions of all shapes and sizes. To help sing the virtues of its Townstar EV, Nissan transformed it into the Karaok-e, a high-tech mobile music studio.
While the Townstar EV is already on sale in both cargo and Evalia passenger van models, Karaok-e is a one-of-a-kind project that highlights the nearly endless possibilities for customization and conversions.
Starting on the outside, the long-wheelbase Townstar Evalia EV receives a color-flow wrap with bold “KARAOK-e” lettering, the Japanese kana for “karaoke,” project hashtags, a roof-mounted “On Air” illuminated sign, and a set of bold alloy wheels.
Inside, the second-row seats of the seven-passenger model have been removed, leaving two third-row seats with limo-style legroom. A custom built-in karaoke system features a retractable 32-inch screen mounted in a console behind the first row, along with a high-power sound system.
Performers can select songs spanning a variety of genres and languages via a pair of side-mounted tablets. Hand-held microphones are also included. The karaoke system also features sharing apps, the ability to record performances, and add details like intros and outros.
Custom color-shifting lighting mounted in the ceiling and around the cabin synch with the music beat adding to the karaoke-lounge like experience.
Nissan UK says that the Townstar EV, fitted with a 45kWh battery, has a total WLTP city range of up to 219 miles, and up to 163 miles in the combined cycle.
The production version of the Townstar EV, based on the CMF-C platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, is manufactured at the small van center in Maubeuge, France.
Note: Townstar Karaok-e is a customized project vehicle and is not for sale
