Toyota is wrapping up a yearlong celebration that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the original Crown by introducing a new Special Edition of the Crown Estate.
Going on sale this week at Toyota dealers in Japan, customers can select the Crown Estate “The 70th” in RS or Z trim levels (left to right above).
Special Editions offer unique two-tone body colors that are said to express harmony with the Japanese landscape. Precious Metal and Precious Pearl White combo is shown above. Also available is Precious Metal and Black.
Crown Estate Special Edition includes good-looking 21-inch alloy wheels with matte black finish wrapped with 235/45R21 tires. An available set of sporty side decals feature “The 70th” logo.
The interior is dressed with a specially designed color called Black Luster, while leather-trimmed sport seats include sporty red stitching.
Additional enhancements for the Special Edition include a three-spoke dimpled leather-wrapped steering wheel along with aluminum pedals for the brake and accelerator.
Exclusive elements with “The 70th” logo include a premium shift knob, instrument panel decoration, Crown Estate smart keys, and projection courtesy illumination.
Toyota Crown Estate RS models in Japan feature a 2.5-liter engine with Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) system and E-Four AWD, while Z models have a 2.5-liter engine Hybrid (HEV) system with E-Four AWD.
The Crown Estate is the fourth Special Edition in the 70th anniversary series that also included the current Crown Crossover, Crown Sports, and Crown Sedan body styles.
1955 Toyopet Crown

The Crown is one of Toyota’s longest-running nameplates. The 1955 Toyopet Crown was the first passenger car developed by Toyota on its own. In 1957, two Toyopet Crowns departed the port of Yokohama, for Los Angeles. Toyota’s first dealership in America opened in 1958. Some 288 Crowns, plus a single Land Cruiser, were sold that year. During the past 70 years, and 16 generations, the Crown has been offered as a sedan, coupe, wagon, and even a pickup.
Note: Features, specifications and launch timing for Japan market Crown Estate Special Edition models is subject to change without notice.
