While everyone’s waiting for the official debut of the new Euro Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show, Honda UK has announced prices for the newly upgraded Swindon-built Civic hatch and Touring models arriving in UK showrooms next month. Enthusiasts are hoping that the Type R will find its way to America as the ultimate Civic. Yet the new Sport hatch shown here could provide Honda with a higher volume hatch to counter the likes of the Ford Focus, Mazda3, Volkswagen Golf and others.
Honda says prices will start from £16,815 OTR ($25,924) for the entry level 1.4 i-VTEC manual S grade model which will include the all-new Honda Connect infotainment system. Prices will top out at £26,970 ($41,580) for the 1.8 i-VTEC Ex Plus Tourer.
Launched at the Paris Motor Show last September, the updated Civic and Tourer gain new front styling with new headlights, integrated daytime running lights and a new front bumper. The Civic hatch also features a new rear bumper, side skirts, a rear spoiler finished in black, and LED rear combination lamps. In keeping with these enhancements on the outside, the 2015 models also receive a upgrades inside.
The Euro Civic lineup has been expanded with the introduction of the new Civic Sport. Based on the hatch, and powered by the 1.6-liter, 120 PS diesel engine or the 1.8-liter, 142 PS gas engine, it features unique color-coded rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Sport also echoes the design of the upcoming Type R with a new front bumper featuring a lower grille mesh.
Honda’s City-Brake Active (CTBA) system is designed to help avoid or mitigate low-speed accidents, using radar technology to scan the road ahead, and automatically apply the brakes if an imminent risk of collision is detected. The system is engineered to operate at speeds below 30 km/h.
The 2015 Civic range will also premiere the all-new Honda Connect in-car audio and information system. Honda Connect offers convenience and connectivity with key features including; AM/FM, DAB and Internet Radio, Bluetooth, internet browsing, satellite navigation and rear-view parking camera. The system runs Android 4.0.4 and features the familiar pinch, swipe and tap functionality of a smart phone on a 7-inch display screen.
The new Civic range will be available with five trim levels: S, SE, SR, Sport and EX (with the Navi option adding Satellite Navigation) and will have City Brake Active System as standard. DASP (Driver Assistance Package) is an additional £600 on the SE plus, SR and EX Plus grades, adding safety technologies such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind sport information, traffic sign recognition and a high beam support system.
The entry-level S grade features 16” alloy wheels, headlight auto on/off, LED daytime running lights, USB/AUX Jack (iPod compatible), one touch magic seats, power windows and heated power mirrors, alarm, immobilizer, deflation warning system, hill-start assist and vehicle stability assist. In addition the all-new Honda Connect system with Navi (optional) and City Brake Active system will become standard.
The SE grade incorporates features found in the S grade models but adds a leather steering wheel and gear shift knob, parking sensors (front and rear), cruise control with speed limiter, remote retractable door mirrors, 17” alloys, 16” vented disk brakes (excluding 1.4 gas), and dual-zone climate control.
The new Sport derivative to the Civic range offers distinctive alloy pedals, black roof lining, 17” black alloy wheels, privacy glass (rear doors and tailgate window tinted), color-coded tailgate spoiler and unique body color-coded lower mesh grill.
Moving up the range, the SR grade has ultrasonic sensors, leather-trimmed interior, heated front seats, glass sunroof, auto-dim rearview mirror (as standard), driver seat power lumbar adjust and high-power audio with 8 speakers.
The EX Plus tops the range with smart entry and start, passenger seat power lumbar adjust, driver seat power-adjustable side support, interior blue ambient lighting, 17” alloy wheels and LED headlights.
