Toyota is expanding its BEV lineup for 2026 with the addition of a new outdoor-themed bZ4X model. In Europe, Japan, and Australia, it will be called bZ4X Touring, while in North America it will carry the name of bZ Woodland.
In addition to a more rugged look, the new model gains extended body length behind the rear axle, a taller rear roofline, and more upright tailgate. These changes provide increased interior cargo capacity, compared to the regular (and newly updated) bZ4X SUV.
Adventure-ready styling enhancements include black wheel arches with a grained appearance, black alloy wheels, and sturdy roof rails. There’s a new front and rear lower fascia design, outdoor-styled LED taillights, and a new Brilliant Bronze monotone exterior color choice.
Compare Rear Styling to the Regular bZ4X
The above photo of the regular bZ4X highlights rear styling elements that set the new Touring/Woodland apart. Notice the short rear overhang, fastback profile, different taillights, and D-pillar design. While the regular bZ4X looks sporty, the new Touring/Woodland looks more like an estate, an SUV, or perhaps a Subaru. (Remembering that bZ4X was originally jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru.)
bZ4X Touring Electric Powertrain
Toyota says that the Touring’s front-drive targeted maximum output is 221 bhp (224 DIN hp/165 kW). The AWD model is projected to become the most powerful Toyota BEV yet, with 376 bhp (380 DIN hp/280 kW). Meanwhile, the bZ Woodland AWD is initially rated at 375 hp with a manufacturer-estimated all-electric driving range rating of up to 260 miles.
bZ4X Touring offers front- or all-wheel drive, the latter fitted with driver-selectable X-MODE® settings, traction-enhancing Grip Control, and new e-Axles. A 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery is standard, with 11kW or 22kW onboard charger, and DC fast-charging capability. While the bZ Woodland has standard AWD, an NACS (North American Charging System) port with Level 3 DC fast-charging, along with Plug & Charge capability at select charging stations.
bZ4X Touring Interior and Multimedia
The driver- and passenger-friendly Touring interior can be trimmed with a new color of upholstery called City Moss that segues with the outdoorsy vibe of the new model. Like the upgraded conventional bZ4X, the Touring receives a redesigned center console, and higher-tech instrument panel.
The bZ4X Touring’s standard 14-inch multimedia system provides a BEV navigation function that helps the driver plan a route, along with displaying charging point locations, based on remaining driving range and battery state of charge.
The new bZ4X Touring is expected to go on sale in Japan and Europe in spring 2026, while the bZ Woodland is planned to launch in North America early next year.
