Mitsubishi is updating its popular Delica D:5 minivan with product enhancements inside and out. A prototype was shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, with sales planned to start this winter in Japan. Since the launch of the original Delica in 1968, Mitsubishi says some 1.38 million units have been sold.
Changes to the Delica D:5 start on the outside, with a dynamic new grille, bumpers, wheel moldings, wide Delica logo on the tailgate, and good-looking 18-inch alloy wheels. New color choices include two-tone Moonstone Gray Metallic and Black Mica.
Delica D:5 continues to be powered by a 2.2-liter common-rail “clean diesel” turbo engine, teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The electronic 4WD system, called Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) is said to control driving and braking force to the wheels for enhanced stability and handling.
Drive Modes, with four selections, offer the choices of Normal (4WD), ECO (2WD), Gravel for off-road driving, and Snow for slippery surfaces. Hill Descent Control is also included on Delica D:5.
The interior gains metallic accents, a dark gray center panel, and an 8-inch color LCD digital meter display that shows S-AWC functionality. Seats are trimmed with suede-like material that’s said to be water-repellent, while featuring khaki color stitching. USB-C ports are also added to the lower center console.
Safety features for Delica D:5 include an enhanced Collision Mitigation Braking System, Parking Sensor for the front and rear bumpers, and an improved Multi Around Monitor with side and front view screens, plus a bird’s eye view.
The updated Delica D:5 joins the revamped Delica Mini super height-wagon (Kei car) in Japan, that also receives new styling and product updates.
