Honda Prelude HRC Concept and GT Racing Car – Tokyo Auto Salon 2026

By Steve Laser

Honda introduced an exciting array of concept models at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026. New product lines, called “Sport Line” and “Trail Line” were announced, along with the latest racing machine from Honda Racing (HRC).

Prelude HRC Concept

Honda Sports DNA is generously applied to the new Prelude HRC Concept. While it’s called a concept, Honda says that it is currently developing HRC Performance Parts for the Prelude. Could the HRC mods applied to this great-looking show car be offered to Prelude enthusiasts in the future?

Aero enhancements include a race-car inspired rear wing, carbon-style front spoiler, lower rear diffuser, and side sills. Fender extensions house HRC alloy wheels and low-profile, performance tires. The exterior also sports HRC logos, along with attractive livery style color accents.

HRC Prelude-GT

HRC revealed a prototype of its new GT500 Prelude-GT last September, and said it plans to compete in the 2026 Super GT series in Japan with the new racing car. At the Tokyo Auto Salon, HRC displayed what appears to be an enhanced development model.

The HRC Prelude-GT is a gorgeous racing car from every angle. It follows the Civic Type R-GT that HRC campaigned in 2024 and 2025. Switching from Civic Type R’s sedan body style to the two-door Prelude creates a racing car with a more wedge-like profile. HRC is expected to release more information about the GT in the coming months.

Civic Type R HRC Concept

Continuing the Sport Line theme, Honda also displayed a modified Civic Type R HRC Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The sporty demeanor is further enhanced with a camo-style exterior treatment. Combined with a roster of HRC Performance Parts, the Civic Type R HRC Concept would certainly stand out on the street.

Civic e:HEV RS Prototype

While the Civic e:HEV RS at Tokyo Auto Salon is called a prototype, Honda says it plans to put the model into production, with sales expected to start in Japan “before the end of 2026.” The RS is said to gain Honda’s new S+ Shift control technology for hybrids that made its debut on the regular production Prelude. The prototype’s livery pays homage to a Civic that campaigned in the All-Japan Touring Car Championship about 30 years ago.

CR-V TrailSport HRC Concept

Honda showed HRC-enhanced TrailSport concepts of the Japan market CR-V (above), ZR-V, Vezel, and WR-V. Availability of the HRC components on the concepts has not been announced. Honda said, “TrailSport HRC Concept models incorporate expertise HRC has gained from off-road racing and feature designs that evoke dynamic performance and a spirit of adventure.”
