The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 was completely redesigned four years ago. In addition to new styling, features, and technologies, it offered new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 gas and 3.3-liter diesel engines. For 2026, a new hybrid powertrain becomes available for the first time.
Toyota Motor Europe (TME) says the new Performance Hybrid is being introduced on a trio of Land Cruiser 300s, including the VX, ZX and GR Sport grades. Global sales plans for the Performance Hybrid are said to include East Europe, Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.
It is unlikely that a flagship Land Cruiser would return to America, where the smaller Land Cruiser (250 series) has been available since the 2024 model year. Those seeking a more luxurious SUV can opt for the Lexus LX 700h, featuring a similar hybrid system.
The Land Cruiser 300’s parallel hybrid powertrain includes a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gas engine, single motor-generator, 10-speed automatic transmission, and nickel-metal hydride battery. Combined output is 457 DIN hp (228 kW) and 790 Nm torque, making it the most powerful Land Cruiser yet, according to TME.
With the gas engine and electric motor running together, throttle response is said to be increased by 40 percent versus the non-hybrid model. At lower speeds (below 30 km/h) the system can operate on the electric motor alone.
The 300 Performance Hybrid features Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, a Multi-Terrain Monitor, new electric power steering, and Downhill Assist Control. Adaptive Variable Suspension, drive mode select, and a rear limited-slip differential are also offered.
Dual 12.3-inch screens include a digital instrument panel for the driver and a center-mounted multimedia system with navigation. A JBL premium audio system with 14 speakers, four-zone air conditioning, head-up display, and Panoramic View Monitor are available.
Note: Features and specifications for select global market models are subject to change without notice. The Land Cruiser 300 is not available in America.
