Following the introduction of the revamped RC coupe last year, Lexus is rolling out a refreshed RC F performance version along with a new RC F Track Edition for the 2020 model year.
Making their debut at the Detroit Auto Show, Lexus says that “hard core driving enthusiasts no longer have to decide between a luxury car for the street and a serious performance car for the track.”
In addition to enhanced styling, RC F receives improved aerodynamics, reduced weight (about 160-180 lbs. lighter than the previous RC F), and a retuned suspension. Meanwhile, the Track Edition (above), developed with the Lexus Super GT and IMSA race teams, is fitted with a weight-saving carbon fiber roof, hood, front air dam, and bumper reinforcement.
The Track Edition’s fixed rear wing, made of carbon fiber, is designed to reduce drag and add downforce. A titanium muffler and tail pipes help to reduce weight while producing a unique sound. Lexus says that many of the carbon fiber parts are made on the same line that supplied components for the LFA supercar.
A set of BBS forged 19-inch light alloy wheels is fitted to the RC F Track Edition featuring a design inspired by the RC F GT3 racing car. Enhanced stopping power is provided by upgraded Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors.
The Track Edition is powered by the same 5.0-liter V8 engine found in the RC F, rated at 472 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque, and teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lexus says the Track Edition can sprint from 0-to-60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds.
The driver can engage standard Electronic Launch Control via a button on the console. The system automatically provides maximum thrust from a stop by managing traction and throttle control. Lexus says all the driver has to do is “press and hold the brake pedal, engage the system, floor the accelerator to bring up the engine speed, and release the brake.”
Luxury and performance are the keys for the RC F Track Edition’s interior. It’s dressed with red leather and trimmed with Alcantara seat accents while sporting red carbon trim on the dash and doors.
Lexus says that production for both the 2020 RC F and RC F Track Edition is planned to begin in the second quarter of this year.
