Toyota Camry LEGO Debuts in Australia – Brickman Builds Full-size Model with 500,000 Pieces

According to Toyota Australia, the new-generation Camry contains about 30,000 individual components. It takes roughly 17 to 18 hours to build one in Japan, including panel stamping, painting, welding and inspections. So how long would it take to make a Camry entirely out of LEGO® bricks?

Ryan McNaught (above), aka “The Brickman,” recently built an amazing full-size Toyota Camry Hybrid SL replica using more than half a million LEGO bricks. The model took about 900 hours to assemble. It’s set to go on display this week at the “Brickman Awesome” exhibit in Melborne Museum Plaza.

The regular production Camry rides on Toyota’s New Generation Architecture (TNGA) platform..

In Australia, the Camry is offered in Ascent and Ascent Sport models with 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas or hybrid choices, the SX with 4-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 engines, and SL with all three powertrains.

While Brickman’s one-of-a-kind creation looks remarkably similar to the popular sedan, it doesn’t have an engine or roll on rubber tires. Instead it’s made from some 500,000 injection-molded thermoplastic polymer bricks sourced from the famous Danish toy company.

With incredible attention to detail, the LEGO Camry is a sight to behold. Brickman added Toyota logos to the alloy wheels, plus “Hybrid” and “SL” trim lettering. For a little more pizzazz, it also features working headlights, indicators and brake lights.

The dramatically redesigned eighth-generation Camry went on sale late last year in Australia. Toyota says the Camry has been the country’s best-selling midsize car for 23 years in a row. Since 1983, Camry sales have topped 930,000 cars in Australia, with some 705,000 four-cylinder models, 46,000 hybrids, and 180,000 V6s.
