Porsche Unseen – Vision Renndienst Concept Revealed – What If They Built An Electric Van?

By Steve & Tamami Laser

Automakers invest heavily in developing futuristic concept vehicles that usually premiere at major international auto shows. Yet this year, in the midst of a global pandemic, most of the shows have been postponed, rescheduled or cancelled. So Porsche is offering a rare look behind the scenes at its concepts from the past – that have not been shown to the public – under the theme “Porsche Unseen.”

One of the concepts that caused us to jump out of our seats and take notice is called the Porsche Vision Renndienst, a full-size model of an all-electric “space shuttle” concept (aka van, minivan, monospace, etc.).

While “Porsche Renndienst” (rennsport, motorsports, or racing services) was applied to Volkswagen transporter support vehicles in the past, Porsche says the study shows how its design DNA could potentially be transferred to an “unknown vehicle segment” for the brand.

Porsche Vision Renndienst is designed to ride on an all-electric platform, opening up space inside a modular cabin. In addition to its head-turning styling, the interior is designed with a unique twist for a van – a centrally mounted driver’s seat – with racing car flair.

We don’t know why Porsche decided not to show the electric van concept publicly when it was created two years ago.

The automaker already has considerable experience with EVs, including the Taycan, and upcoming Cross Turismo.
