Jeep and Mopar Reveal Moab Safari Concepts – Imagine a 2-Door Long-Bed Gladiator

By Steve & Tamami Laser

Six new concept vehicles have been revealed by Jeep® and Mopar ahead of their debut at the 53rd Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Utah, Apr. 13-21. Thousands of enthusiasts are expected to attend the event to share their passion for off-roading and the Jeep brand.

This year’s event will highlight the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator (above), plus an array of more than 200 Jeep Performance Parts and accessories from Mopar for the new truck. The frosting on the cake is the chance to check out Jeep’s new custom-built concepts. Let’s take a closer look at them.

Jeep J6

While the production 4-door Gladiator is like a dream come true, some folks are thinking about a 2-door version with a longer cargo bed. Jeep calls the new J6 a concept, yet it might preview an upcoming production version, or perhaps offer separate parts for DIY conversions.

Starting life as a Rubicon, Mopar and the Jeep Design team created this 2-door pickup with a removable hardtop. J6 sports a 6-foot cargo bed, which is a foot longer than the Gladiator’s bed. It rides on the same 118.4-inch wheelbase as the Wrangler 4-door.

The concept also features prototype bed-mounted sport/roll bar with five-inch Jeep Performance Parts LED lights, a front stinger bar, a spare tire carrier that holds up to a 37-inch tire, 17-inch beadlock wheels, and a two-inch lift kit.

Jeep Flatbill

Jeep calls the Gladiator-based Flatbill concept a “truck dedicated to dirt-bike riding.” And to prove the point, two dirtbikes are positioned in the bed. By removing the tailgate, Jeep says that slide-out wheel ramps can be used for easy loading and unloading.

Flatbill features a vented carbon hood and high-clearance flares, custom designed shortened front bumper and skid plate, custom bodywork on the bed lowers, along with a tube rear bumper.

To help tackle off-road obstacles, Flatbill employs Dynatrac Pro-Rock 60 front and rear axles, Off-Road Evolution custom four-inch lift kit, and 20-inch wheels shod with 40-inch tires. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 under the hood gains a Mopar cold-air intake.

Jeep Five-Quarter

Jeep says this “Resto-Mod” of a 1968 M-715 Gladiator-based military vehicle was reimagined with design and functional chassis, drivetrain and cargo improvements. A full carbon-fiber front end replaces the original sheet metal, while a new 6-foot custom aluminum bed and 3.5-inch drop of its soft-top further enhance the exterior.

Under the hood is a 6.2-liter supercharged “Hellcrate” HEMI® V8 engine said to produce more than 700 horsepower. The original frame is reinforced while a heavy duty link/coil suspension system replaces the original rear leafs. There’s a Dynatrac Pro-rock 60 front axle, Pro-rock 80 rear axle, and 20-inch wheels with 40-inch tires.

Other mods include HID front lights with LED auxiliary lighting, LED rear halo lights, functional rock rails that replace the original rockers, modded Jeep Gladiator Rubicon front bumpers, plus a brushed metal-finished body and tailgate.

Jeep JT Scrambler

Based on the Gladiator Rubicon, the new JT Scrambler concept is inspired by the early ‘80s-era CJ8 Scrambler. It’s trimmed with prototype “Punk ‘N Metallic Orange and Nacho” bodyside stripes, with a matching graphic on the hood, plus a vintage amber freedom top.

There’s a spray-in bedliner, prototype tube sport/roll bar with LED lights, 17-inch bronze slot wheels, two-inch Jeep Performance Parts lift kit, 37-inch tires, cold-air intake for the engine and cat-back exhaust.

The retro theme continues inside with Katzkin Amaretto Brown leather-trimmed seats with the Jeep grille-style logo embroidered on the seatbacks, along with matching trim on the dash. Underfoot is a Mopar bright pedal kit plus all-weather floor mats.

Jeep Gladiator Gravity

As a rock-climber-themed trail concept, Gladiator Gravity is fitted with “launch-ready” Jeep Performance Parts. The list includes Mopar cross-rails in the bed area with a cargo carrier basket, and Mopar/Decked truck-bed storage system with lockable storage space and dual sliding drawers.

Two-inch round steel tube doors replace the standard doors, a mesh sunbonnet provides cover when the top is removed, plus tie-down straps are designed to help secure the lowered windshield.

There’s a two-inch lift kit, 17-inch gear wheels with 35-inch tires, heavy gauge, powder-coated rock rails, seven-inch LED lights in front of the Mopar satin black grille, and A-pillar-mounted five-inch LED lights.

Jeep Wayout

This cool Gladiator overland concept is designed for adventure-seekers with a full roof-top tent that “sleeps two comfortably,” plus a custom canopy with 270-degree awning. Other goodies include a set of custom-fit auxiliary fuel tanks, and ARB on-board air system with body-mounted air supply.

The concept also features a 12,000-lb. Warn winch, Jeep Performance Parts snorkel, two-inch lift kit, 17-inch steel wheels with 37-inch mud-terrain tires, Mopar/Decked bed-drawer system, and custom-integrated roof-rack.
