2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Preview – All-Electric RST, Work Truck WT and Trail Boss Pickups

By Steve & Tamami Laser

Chevrolet is charging into the rapidly expanding all-electric truck market with the new Silverado EV. Introduced virtually during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2022)  in Las Vegas, the Silverado EV rides on General Motors Ultium EV Platform, like its cousins, the GMC Hummer EV, and Cadillac LYRIQ.

The Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) is up first, a model that targets fleet-oriented buyers, with deliveries commencing in spring 2023. Initial specs include 510 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque, 8,000 lbs. towing, and 1,200 lbs. payload. Chevrolet says a fleet model with 20,000 lbs. trailering, with the max tow package, is planned after the initial launch.*

The RST First Edition, planned for a fall 2023 launch, offers enhanced luxury and high-tech features. Both models carry a GM-estimated 400-mile range on a full charge, standard DC fast charging up to 350kW, and up to 10.2kW of offboard power, when properly equipped. RST is the performance king, with up to 664 hp and 780 lb.-ft., in available max power Wide Open Watts Mode, with a GM-estimated 0-60 mph time of less than 4.5 seconds.*

A new Trail Boss model, with off-road styling cues, is planned to join the lineup later. Silverado EV features four-wheel independent suspension, with front- and rear-drive motors with the e4WD system. Four-wheel steering is available, and so is an Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension with adjustable ride height.

With the powertrain and batteries mounted low in the Ultium EV Platform, there’s space available for storage up front. A lockable compartment, called the eTrunk, offers users the ability to carry items like luggage, sports gear, or a variety of accessories planned for retail and fleet customers.

A Multi-Flex Midgate on RST extends the 5-ft., 11-in. bed to more than 9-ft., from the cab to the tailgate. Greater cargo flexibility is offered with a 60/40-split second-row seat, and Multi-Flex Tailgate that allows up to 10-ft., 10-in. of load floor. Those seeking enhanced security when transporting cargo can opt for an available, lockable tonneau cover.

Silverado EV has a Crew Cab body style, featuring a modern and spacious cabin. Chevrolet says tall passengers will be comfortable “no matter where they sit.” Among the RST’s luxury features is a fixed-glass roof, offering increased visibility and headroom for those riding in the front and rear.

High-tech features on RST include an 11-in. driver instrument display, a 17-in. LCD freeform infotainment screen, and available driver head-up display with a field of view over 14-in. Other goodies include hands-free start, and Ultifi, a Linux-based software system that Chevrolet says enables frequent software updates, so drivers can “evolve their vehicles over time, enhancing both the capabilities and accessing cloud services in a flexible and fast way.”

Note: Prototype models are shown in this story. Features, specifications, and launch timing for future production models is subject to change without notice. *Estimated range may vary and EPA estimates are not yet available. Performance targets are estimates. Fast charging requires use of public 800-volt DC fast chargers. Towing and payload are GM estimates.
