2019 Lexus UX Hybrid Crossover First Look – World Debut at Geneva Motor Show

Lexus has introduced the all-new UX compact crossover at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The luxury automaker says the model is a new gateway for Lexus vehicles, filled with the qualities that define the brand including brave design, exhilarating performance and imaginative technology.

The 2019 UX rides on a new Lexus global platform called GA-C. It will be offered initially as the UX 250h gas-electric hybrid and the gas-only UX 200. Both models share a sleek design that brings to mind the larger Lexus NX and RX at the front.

The UX 250h features a fourth-generation hybrid electric system with a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT). Drivetrain choices include front-wheel drive and Lexus’ E-Four all-wheel drive that employs a second electric motor to power the rear wheels.

At the rear, the outboard light clusters are connected by a continuous, single line of light across the liftgate formed by a sequence of 120 LEDs. Selecting the F Sport option nets high-tech goodies including Adaptive Variable Suspension, a system that made its debut on the Lexus LC coupe.

The interior of the new UX presents a cockpit-style design focused on the driver. The F Sport model (above) features exclusive seats, an 8-inch TFT color display, and an instrument panel with a moving outer ring.

The UX offers a new trim finish inspired by the grain of Japanese paper, known as washi, familiar in traditional Japanese homes. Lexus says it’s created using a slush-molding process and a carefully chosen surface finish to evoke a calm and warm feeling.
